The Zilliqa platform held its ICO between December 24, 2017 and January 4, 2018, raising about $22 million in funding. It is designed by researchers from the National University of Singapore and uses “sharding” to solve the problem of scalability in blockchains. Sharding allows for linear scaling of the size of the blockchain with traffic. ZIL utilizes a hybrid method of governance, at the shard layer and at the DS layer. On the shard layer, individual decisions are made by shard nodes that do not interact with each other. The DS Committee then combines individual shards and reaches consensus this way. This method is called finality, and it uses less computing power than the likes of Ethereum and Bitcoin.
