Zcash was initially released on October 28, 2016. It attempts to solve the problem of transaction anonymity while still maintaining KYC/AML compliance. It does this by giving the transactors the ability to disclose the trade to whoever they choose, meaning that transactions will remain completely anonymous to everyone except the people it has been chosen to share with. Zcash is the founder of the zero-knowledge proof consensus mechanism called zk-SNARKs, which allows for anonymous transactions. It also utilizes t-addr for its transparent transactions, which is similar to Bitcoin. Zcash released its 2.0.0 version of its mainnet on August 18, 2018, meaning that the network is fully functional and has already been through major revisions.
